As we prepare for autumn in southern New England, many activities such as leaf raking, patio clearing, wintering plants, and replacing screens with storm windows come to mind. Pumpkins and mums begin to appear on front and back steps, and tobacco sheds are home to the remaining leaves hung neatly to dry. It is a time of preparation as the leaves give off their most glorious colors of the season and the air is scented with wood burning fires.
