James is what has been politely termed a High Needs Baby. He doesn't sleep for more than an hour at a time. Ever. He nurses every two hours and shows little interest in solid food. When he is awake, he wants to be held. Since I have another young child, a home to take care of, a husband to love, and only two hands, I don't have the luxury of meeting each of James' needs exactly at the moment he expresses it. So our little Mister spends more time crying each day than anyone in our household would like.

It is a wondrous thing that, precisely when we are striving to do a good thing, to amend our characters, we find ourselves at a stalemate with our own will. As St. Paul says, "The willing is ready at hand, but doing the good is not" (Romans 7:18b).
